Pearlscale Goldfish 2-3"
Pearlscale Goldfish
Pearlscale Goldfish, also known as ping pong goldfish, are an odd-looking variety of fancy goldfish that live in coldwater aquariums happily with other Fancy Goldfish. They are golf ball shaped with prominent scales, this makes them popular in the trade as they are very different to other fancy goldfish.
Pearlscale goldfish are generally twin-tailed with very compact, rounded bodies. The fish takes its name from its nacreous scales, which have a raised centre outlined with darker pigment. The scales are arranged in rows and resemble pale-coloured pearls. This listing is for pearlscale goldfish of random colouration and sex, a mixture of orange, white and black patterning.
Can you keep Pearlscale Goldfish with other fancy goldfish?
Yes you can house Pearlscale, or ping pong goldfish with other varieties of goldfish. They also do very well with smaller coldwater fish, such as minnows or danios. Pearlscale goldfish are very slow swimmers, so care must be taken to ensure they are not out-competed for food by other faster-swimming tank inhabitants.
Are Pearlscale Goldfish more prone to disease?
Pearlscale goldfish are not as hardy as many of the other varieties of fancy goldfish, so care must be taken to house them adequately. The water must be pristine, as pearlscales can be more prone to stress-related bacterial diseases owing to their awkward size and movement, and unique protruding scales. As a slow-swimming variety of fancy goldfish, care must be taken to ensure they feed and are not out-competed for food.
